When there is an ingredient missing

Published on January 31, 2008

Do you ever feel like something’s missing?

Following that sense of “hang on, there is something not 100% right here” is a massive part of leading God’s people.

To me, that is what makes ministry leadership primarily spiritual in nature. It is not just training or skills or abilities or personality that we do this thing. It’s got to be something more. We’re talking supernatural, revelatory stuff. Seeing ahead of the seasons and making the necessary adjustments to keep pace with the Spirit of God.

If I’m honest, I want spend much more of my life there. In the spirit-led zone. Because, when everything is said and done, I’m sick of my own carnality and God’s name deserves much more than just our limitations.

    Hi Bruce,

Great to see you back on the web sharing your ministry, leadership and life wisdom. I really enjoy reading what you have to say and get a lot out of it.
I agree with what you’re saying. I’ve been reading this book called ‘So You want to be like Christ?’ by Charles R. Swindoll and he talks in one of the chapters about slowing our pace to match God’s. Sometimes I think that we get ahead of God and start ministering/leading in our strength and our pace instead of in step with Him.

Hi Mark – great to hear from you mate. Spot on with that quote from Swindoll. I know I’ve got the word right, but the timing wrong! Easy to do. It really makes us more reliant on the Holy Spirit, doesn’t it. Which is the point :)
